Lauren Tobey
Lauren began metalsmithing twenty years ago in Baton Rouge, LA. Soon after, she relocated to Albuquerque to attend the University of New Mexico where she completed a Bachelor of Arts degree. During this time, Lauren worked for several jewelry artists doing production work and piece work, and soon began creating her own line of jewelry.
In 2006 Lauren opened Meltdown Studio, Albuquerque's premier jewelry-making school and open studio workspace which also houses ten permanent bench rentals. Lauren's mission at Meltdown Studio has been to create a community to encourage and support all those interested in learning, teaching, and sharing the compelling art form of small metals and jewelry, and to make it more accessible for everyone. Lauren has been an instructor for over ten years, teaching students of all levels in both groups and private instruction at Meltdown Studio as well as other educational facilities across the country. Lauren's work can be found in museum stores, galleries, and retail locations in and outside of New Mexico.

Laura Wacha
Born and raised in Sarasota, FL, a city where art meets circus, Laura Wacha's formative years were steeped in the cheerfully low and tastelessly high of American culture. Childhood witness to the usual Florida kitsch in neighborhoods populated with retired circus performers, aging munchkins, and wealthy blue-eyed dowagers walking their dyed-to-match poodles. The young artist saw in John Ringling's marvelous museum of theatrically narritive paintings and sculpture how art could entertain, amaze and amuse.
After earning her BA from Mt. Holyoke College, years were spent traveling, creating and showing in the US and UK before Ms. Wacha ultimately settled in New Mexico. She now spends her time making art in her secluded Bernardo studio & teaching art to elementarty students in Belen, NM.
Inspired by the spectacle of humans being human, Ms. Macha's work continues to include flamboyantly colored and tightly packed acrylic paintings, whimsical papier mache sculptures, and fanciful ceramic figures that all employ an odd cast of characters. Simultaneously grotesque and humorous, cartoonish and yet beautifully executed, Ms.Watcha's work contains personal allegories of domestic life and political strife.
